25.09.2017

As students prepare for the start of the new academic year the University of Wales Trinity Saint David’s continued success and improvement is reflected once again in the latest University League table published over the weekend by The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2018.

Graddio Cfyrddin 1

This latest League Table shows that the University is now ranked 16th overall in the UK for ‘Teaching Quality’ and third in Wales.  UWTSD has also performed strongly for ‘Teaching Quality’ and ‘Student Satisfaction’ in a number of academic subjects.   Key findings from The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2018 include:

  • UWTSD ranked 4th in the UK & 1st in Wales for ‘Teaching Quality’ in Business Studies
  • UWTSD ranked 4th in the UK & 1st in Wales for ‘Teaching Quality’ in Classics & Ancient History
  • UWTSD ranked 1st in Wales for ‘Teaching Quality’ in History
  • UWTSD ranked 9th in the UK and 1st in Wales for ‘Teaching Quality’ in Computer Science
  • UWTSD ranked 1st in Wales for ‘Teaching Quality’ in Mechanical Engineering
  • UWTSD ranked 8th in the UK & 1st in Wales for ‘Student Experience’ in Business Studies
  • UWTSD ranked 1st in Wales for ‘Student Experience’ in Mechanical Engineering

These results comes swiftly after the University was recently awarded its highest ever Student Satisfaction score in the National Student Survey 2017 (NSS). Satisfaction amongst final year undergraduates at the University has improved in two consecutive years to 85% from 79% two years ago.  This improvement has seen UWTSD climb 44 places in the UK Universities NSS table, from 102nd to 58th place.

The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide is an annual publication which provides a comprehensive overview of higher education in Britain and includes an analysis of student satisfaction and the quality of the teaching at each institution.  Entering the Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide for the first time, UWTSD has been positioned in 104th place overall in the UK.

Dr Mirjam Plantinga, Associate Pro Vice-Chancellor Student Experience:

“We welcome the fact that we’ve been recognised in such an important and well respected league table.  We’ve had some extremely positive league table positions and survey results this year and we're once again pleased with The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide outcome.  This result demonstrates clearly that the University continues to improve in all of its key indicators and we’ll be looking to build on this league table result in the next few years.

To be ranked 16th overall in the UK for ‘Teaching Quality’ is quite an achievement and is testament to the hard work and quality of academic staff we have at the University.  We’re also delighted with the excellent department-level results which include a particularly strong performance in subjects such as Business Studies, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, History and Classics and Ancient History.  We’re proud of the fact that our students appreciate and rate our staff so highly and we’re extremely pleased to see the University rank so highly in such important fields as ‘Teaching Quality’ and ‘Student Experience’.”
