Swansea College of Art student scoops first class degree and dream job offer

16.07.2019

A student from University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD) Swansea College of Art is celebrating a double success this week: he has graduated with first class honours from his bachelor’s degree in Automotive Design, and he has secured a job that will enable him to use and develop the skills he gained during his studies.

Murray Smith, 21, from York, has been given a job at Burrows, a CGI studio. As a junior CGI artist, he is responsible for creating and editing still images of automotive vehicles, primarily for Ford. This work is used for brochures, advertisements and client interaction.

“For me this is an ideal job as it combines my two passions, automotive design and photography. I hope to have a long future here,” he says.

He adds that he is delighted that he chose UWTSD as his university, as it provided everything that he needed to immerse himself in his chosen subject.

“The thing I most enjoyed about studying at the UWTSD was its facilities for students, including the Wacom computer rooms and automotive clay modelling studios,” he says. “Having my own personal space in a studio allowed me to work at times that suited me.

With such small class numbers, we had good support from the tutors, with weekly personal one-to-one meetings guiding us to our specialities and putting us forward for opportunities.”
